Prajwal Revanna, a suspended leader of the Janata Dal (Secular), has been remanded to judicial custody until June 24 by a Karnataka court in connection with rape and molestation cases. The court's decision followed a request from the Special Investigation Team (SIT), which is investigating the case and did not seek further custody as it completed the spot inquest on Monday morning.
Prajwal had left the country for Germany in April when the sex tapes case emerged. Several lookout notices were issued against him globally. He returned to Bengaluru on May 31 and was subsequently arrested by the SIT team. Initially, he was in police custody until June 6.
Upon his arrival on May 31, Prajwal was apprehended by a team of all-women police officers, led by a woman IPS officer. This move by the Karnataka SIT was symbolic and aimed to send a message, highlighting the seriousness with which they were handling the case.
