Prem Singh Tamang, the head of SKM, will swear in as Sikkim Chief Minister today

Prem Singh Tamang, the leader of the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM), is set to be sworn in as the Chief Minister of Sikkim for a second consecutive term on Monday. The ceremony will be held at Paljor Stadium in Gangtok and will be administered by Governor Lakshman Acharya. The event, expected to start at 4 pm, will include the swearing-in of Tamang's Council of Ministers, which has a total strength of 12 members, including the Chief Minister.

The swearing-in ceremony is anticipated to draw around 30,000 attendees, and comprehensive security measures have been implemented throughout Gangtok in preparation for the event.

Tamang, aged 56, led the SKM to a significant victory in the recent assembly elections, securing 31 out of 32 assembly seats as well as the lone Lok Sabha seat in Sikkim. He won from both the Rhenock and Soreng-Chakung constituencies. Following the election results, Tamang was unanimously chosen as the leader of the legislature party in a meeting on June 2.

In contrast, the opposition party, the Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF), which governed the state for 25 consecutive years until 2019, won only one seat in the assembly elections.
