As heavy rain hit Delhi, causing widespread waterlogging, several Members of Parliament faced significant inconvenience, including Samajwadi Party MP Ram Gopal Yadav and Congress MP Shashi Tharoor.
A video circulated showing Ram Gopal Yadav being carried on the shoulders of his staff to reach his vehicle due to severe waterlogging outside his residence in the Lodhi Estate area. Speaking to ANI, Yadav expressed his frustration, noting that his entire bungalow was flooded, causing damage worth lakhs of rupees. He criticized the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), stating he had been in contact with MCD officials since early morning but had not received adequate assistance.
Congress MP Shashi Tharoor shared his ordeal on X (formerly Twitter), describing how his home was submerged under a foot of water, ruining carpets, furniture, and other belongings. He pointed out that clogged stormwater drains were the main cause of the flooding and mentioned that electricity was turned off since 6 am to prevent electrocutions. Despite the challenging situation, Tharoor managed to reach Parliament after the water was pumped out of the roads.
The waterlogging also impacted Delhi Water Minister Atishi, whose residence was shown submerged in visuals. This comes after Atishi recently went on a hunger strike due to a water scarcity issue in the city.
Adding to the chaos, Delhi BJP councilor Ravinder Singh Negi staged a symbolic protest against the AAP government by rowing an inflatable boat on a flooded street. Negi blamed the Public Works Department (PWD) for not cleaning drains ahead of the monsoon, leading to severe waterlogging.
The heavy rainfall and subsequent flooding highlighted the inefficiencies in the city's drainage and preparedness for monsoon rains, affecting not only the general public but also high-profile residents and officials.
