The dust storm that is expected to reach Delhi today will provide some reprieve from the warmth



On Friday, Delhi is likely to experience a duststorm or thunderstorm with light rainfall. The temperatures are forecasted to reach a maximum of 43 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 29 degrees Celsius.

On Thursday night, a duststorm hit several parts of Delhi-NCR, providing some relief from the prevailing heatwave conditions. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported this change in weather due to a new western disturbance.

The IMD has predicted a partly cloudy sky with a potential duststorm or thunderstorm accompanied by light rain for Delhi on Friday. On Thursday, the maximum temperature in Delhi was 41.2 degrees Celsius, slightly above normal, but lower than Wednesday’s 44 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature recorded was 24.6 degrees Celsius, three notches below normal.

Heatwave conditions are expected to persist in isolated areas of northeast Madhya Pradesh until June 10, in Jharkhand between June 7-10, and in Punjab, Haryana, and Bihar from June 8-10. In Uttar Pradesh, heatwave conditions are expected on June 7 (Friday), and hot and humid weather is anticipated in isolated pockets of Bihar on June 7 and Gangetic West Bengal until June 10.

Some relief from the heatwave is expected with light to very light rainfall, thunderstorms, and gusty winds in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan on June 7. A duststorm is also possible in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Rajasthan on June 7. Additionally, the IMD has predicted a hailstorm in isolated areas of West Rajasthan on June 7.

**Southwest Monsoon Update:**

The Southwest Monsoon has further advanced into most parts of Karnataka, some parts of Maharashtra, Telangana, and Coastal Andhra Pradesh. Conditions are favorable for the monsoon to advance into the remaining parts of Karnataka and Coastal Andhra Pradesh, more parts of Maharashtra (including Mumbai), and parts of south Chhattisgarh and south Odisha in the next three to four days.

In Maharashtra, the Southwest Monsoon has arrived in the southern Konkan and advanced up to Ratnagiri and Solapur. The monsoon is expected to reach Mumbai around June 9 and 10.

The IMD has forecast widespread light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and gusty winds in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim over the next five days. Isolated heavy rainfall is likely in Assam, Meghalaya, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Arunachal Pradesh, and Sikkim until June 10, with Nagaland possibly seeing isolated heavy rainfall on June 10.

Additionally, widespread light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and gusty winds is expected in Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Saurashtra, Kutch, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema, Telangana, and Karnataka over the next five days, and in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Mahe, and Kerala on June 7 and 8.
