Mohan Charan Majhi has been announced as the new Chief Minister of Odisha by senior BJP leader and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. The 52-year-old tribal leader and four-time MLA from Keonjhar will be joined by Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo and Pravati Parida as Deputy Chief Ministers. Majhi's selection marks a significant change in Odisha's political landscape, as he aims to lead the state towards progress and development.
Majhi expressed his commitment to fulfilling the people's expectations and enhancing Odisha's development. The BJP Legislature Party meeting, which selected Majhi, was attended by Rajnath Singh and Cabinet colleague Bhupender Yadav.
The oath-taking ceremony for Majhi and other leaders is scheduled for June 12 at 5 pm. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to attend the ceremony in Bhubaneswar, along with several dignitaries, Union Ministers, and BJP-ruled state Chief Ministers.
The BJP won 78 seats in the 147-member Odisha Assembly, while the BJD secured 51 seats. The BJD and BJP previously had an 11-year alliance from 1998 to 2009, which ended following a riot in Kandhamal in 2008.
