In Bihar's Kishanganj district, a 70-meter-long bridge over a tributary of the Maria River at Bansbari Shravan Chowk collapsed due to the pressure of monsoon waters. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in this incident, which marks the fourth bridge collapse in the state within just over a week.
A video circulating on social media shows the middle section of the 13-year-old bridge sagging, nearly touching the swiftly flowing river below. Constructed by the Rural Works Department in 2011 at a cost of approximately Rs 25 lakh, locals have attributed the bridge's premature deterioration to alleged corruption within the system.
The bridge holds significant importance for locals as it connects the main road from Tulsia in Dighalbank Block to Jaynagar and Lohadgada, further linking to National Highway 327 E. Given its critical role in local transportation, residents are urging authorities for immediate reconstruction.
This incident follows three other bridge collapses reported recently in Siwan and Araria districts, highlighting concerns about infrastructure stability and maintenance in Bihar during the challenging monsoon season.
