The Southwest Monsoon is anticipated to advance into interior regions along the west coast in the coming days, bringing showers to Delhi and surrounding areas. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted that Delhi and its adjoining regions will experience rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning from June 26 to 28 due to the progression of the Southwest Monsoon across peninsular India.
The western part of the country is expected to witness 'heavy' to 'very heavy' rainfall over the week, with the monsoon swiftly advancing. The IMD has indicated that the Southwest Monsoon will make further inroads into additional regions of the North Arabian Sea, resulting in rainfall across central Maharashtra, Goa, Konkan, and Karnataka from June 26.
Isolated instances of very heavy rainfall are predicted in parts of Uttarakhand on June 28 and 29. The monsoon has already reached Rajasthan as of Tuesday, according to the Met.
Other regions likely to experience wet spells from June 25 to June 26 include Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Maharashtra, South Interior Karnataka, and Coastal Karnataka. Increased meteorological activity is also expected in Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Uttarakhand, Bihar, and Gujarat in the coming days.
The forecast suggests the possibility of the monsoon advancing further into parts of Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and other areas within the next three to four days.
In northeastern India, light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning is expected over parts of West Bengal, Sikkim, Meghalaya, Assam, and Arunachal Pradesh from June 26 to June 29. Isolated heavy rainfall is also anticipated in parts of Nagaland during this period.
Heatwave conditions are likely to persist in pockets of Jammu, western Rajasthan, and Punjab on June 26, with a subsequent decline in hot weather conditions expected thereafter.
