Suresh Gopi, BJP's first-ever MP from Kerala, has refuted reports suggesting that he intends to resign from his ministerial role in the Modi government. Taking to Twitter, Gopi clarified that such reports are inaccurate, affirming his commitment to serving Kerala's development under PM Modi's leadership.
Earlier, following his induction as Minister of State in the Modi 3.0 government, rumors surfaced about Gopi expressing a desire to step down from his ministerial position and focus on his responsibilities as an MP for Thrissur. He was quoted as saying that he wishes to prioritize his duties to his constituency and is obligated to fulfill his commitments in the film industry.
However, Gopi's office subsequently denied these claims, stating that he never made such remarks. The office attributed the misinformation to certain sections of the media and assured that Gopi would issue a clarification after the allocation of portfolios.
Gopi's inclusion in the Union Cabinet, alongside senior party leader George Kurian, underscores the BJP's strategic focus on Kerala, particularly ahead of the state's upcoming elections in 2026. His historic win in the Thrissur parliamentary constituency, traditionally a Left stronghold, marked a significant achievement for the BJP in Kerala politics.
