A 20-year-old girl in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, was shot by a man named Rohit after repeatedly rejecting his advances. CCTV footage captured the girl attempting to snatch Rohit's pistol before he shot her on June 6. Fortunately, she is now out of danger. The police have launched a manhunt to apprehend the accused.
The victim, a second-year BA student at Mahila Degree College, had been harassed by Rohit for the past five to six months. Rohit was reportedly infatuated with her and pressured her to talk to him, which she consistently refused.
On the day of the incident, Rohit confronted the girl as she was returning home from her college after an exam. When she refused to speak to him again, Rohit brandished a pistol and pointed it at her. The CCTV footage shows the girl bravely attempting to disarm Rohit before he overpowered her and fired the shot.
Before this violent encounter, Rohit and his friends had caused a commotion in the street, displaying arms and swords outside the girl's house. A video of this disturbance went viral on social media.
The victim's mother recounted that Rohit had been following her daughter with malicious intent. Despite complaints to his family and promises from Rohit to stop his harassment, he resumed following her daughter after a while.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Gyanendra Kumar stated that the police had taken note of the incident and initiated a search to arrest the accused. "A case was registered based on the complaint of the victim. We will take strict action against the accused," the SP assured.
