Video: Gandhi Sarovar is struck by an avalanche in the slopes near Kedarnath Temple

Around 5 a.m. on Sunday morning, an avalanche occurred on the snowy mountain behind Kedarnath Dham, specifically over Gandhi Sarovar. A video capturing the massive avalanche rushing down the slopes quickly went viral on social media. Fortunately, no casualties or damage have been reported.

Rudraprayag senior superintendent of police (SSP) Dr. Vishakha Ashok Bhadane confirmed the event, stating, "There was an avalanche from above Gandhi Sarovar in Kedarnath at around 5 a.m. today. There was no loss of life or property," as reported by news agency ANI.

The avalanche resulted in a significant amount of snow descending from the mountain, raising snow dust and causing a stir in Kedarnath. Although the avalanche continued for quite some time, such occurrences are not unusual for this mountain.

Disaster management officer Nandan Singh Rajwar reported that the sector officer of Kedarnath confirmed the avalanche above Gandhi Sarovar, reiterating that no damage occurred. He explained, "Such incidents happen when there is a significant snowfall. They do not cause any damage."

Earlier this month, Kedarnath Dham experienced a substantial influx of pilgrims, with numbers surpassing 7 lakh as of June 6. This year has seen a marked increase in the number of devotees across the Char Dham Yatra circuit, which includes Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri.
