Following the AIADMK's significant defeat in the Lok Sabha elections, VK Sasikala, who was a close aide to the late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, made an announcement on Sunday about her return to politics.
"It's not over for AIADMK as my entry has begun," she proclaimed.
Sasikala, who once served as the powerful general secretary of the party, signalled her return to the political arena after a long hiatus. Known affectionately as 'Chinamma' (which means mother's younger sister) by her supporters, she pledged to lead AIADMK to victory in the 2026 Assembly elections. "We will form Amma's (Jayalalithaa was fondly referred to as Amma) government in 2026, that too with an absolute majority," she confidently stated.
She attributed the Lok Sabha defeat to the actions of certain selfish individuals within the party. "The reason for the defeat is the action of certain selfish people. I’ve been patiently watching all this," she remarked.
Drawing inspiration from party founder MG Ramachandran’s philosophy, Sasikala emphasized that MGR believed in forgiving people and taking them along, a principle she intends to uphold.
Despite acknowledging the party's poor performance in the recent elections, Sasikala expressed strong optimism about the future. "Time has come, don’t worry. The people of Tamil Nadu are with us. I am very strong on this point," she asserted.
Additionally, Sasikala announced her plans to undertake a yatra in the near future.
