Ramoji Rao passed away in Hyderabad this morning. The esteemed founder of Eenadu and Ramoji Film City took his last breath while receiving treatment at a local hospital.
Ramoji Rao, a prominent media baron, and the visionary behind Eenadu and Ramoji Film City, died in Hyderabad early on Saturday morning. According to the news agency ANI, he was undergoing medical treatment at a city hospital when he passed away.
He breathed his last at 3:45 am.
Following his demise, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences to Rao's family, friends, and admirers.
Sharing a photograph of himself with Rao, the Prime Minister remarked that Ramoji Rao was a visionary who transformed the Indian media landscape.
"The passing away of Shri Ramoji Rao Garu is profoundly saddening. He was a visionary who revolutionized Indian media. His significant contributions have left an indelible mark on journalism and the film industry. Through his notable efforts, he established new benchmarks for innovation and excellence in the media and entertainment sectors," the Prime Minister tweeted.
"Ramoji Rao Garu was deeply passionate about India’s development. I am fortunate to have had numerous opportunities to interact with him and gain from his wisdom. My condolences to his family, friends, and countless admirers during this challenging time. Om Shanti," he added.
Telangana BJP chief and party MP G Kishan Reddy also expressed his sorrow over Rao's passing.
"His remarkable contributions to Telugu media and journalism are commendable. My deepest condolences to his family members. Om Shanti," he wrote on X.
Born on November 16, 1936, Ramoji Rao was a successful businessman, media entrepreneur, and film producer. He headed the Ramoji Group, which included the world's largest film production facility, Ramoji Film City, Eenadu newspaper, ETV Network of TV channels, and the film production company Usha Kiran Movies.
In addition to these ventures, Ramoji Rao's business interests spanned across Margadarsi Chit Fund, Dolphin Group of hotels, Kalanjali shopping mall, Priya Pickles, and Mayuri Film Distributors.
