Will you have a facial using viral salmon sperm? Do dermats think this trend is good

Beauty lovers would attempt anything in their pursuit for beautiful, youthful skin. We've seen them on social media do some strange things in the name of beauty, like applying snail mucin to their faces and getting vampire facials.

Facials using salmon sperm are the newest craze. The popularity of this practice has exploded since Hollywood actress Jennifer Aniston acknowledged trying it.

Savoring a mouthwatering salmon dish is one thing, but receiving a salmon sperm facial is an entirely new level of absurdity.

"Salmon sperm? It sounds disgusting, doesn't it? However, the substance isn't exactly what it sounds like. Because of its anti-aging skin advantages, it is a popular K-beauty fad. Polydeoxyribonucleotide (PDRN) is the term used to describe the refined molecules present in salmon fish DNA. According to dermatologist Dr. Rinky Kapoor of The Esthetic Clinics in Delhi, "this is injected into the face to improve the skin complexion, repair damaged cells, boost hyaluronic acid levels, and make your skin look dewy," India Today reports.

Moreover, polydeoxyribonucleotide (PDRN), an active mixture of polynucleotides with a molecular weight ranging from 50 to 1500 kDa, is primarily extracted and purified from the sperm cells of salmon trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss). This is explained by Dr. Shifa Yadav, consultant in dermatology and cosmetology at Artemis Hospital in Gurugram.

Dr. Kapoor claims that this Korean beauty craze is using salmon sperm DNA applied to the face to accentuate facial features.

The physician also clarifies the distinctions between fillers and the salmon sperm facial.

"Fillers are hyaluronic-based injections that plump the skin physically," she says. Without gaining any additional volume, polynucleotide functions as a bio-stimulant to increase the body's fibroblast cells and, thus, the amounts of collagen and elastin."

Why is it so good?
Some say that the anti-aging effects of this facial can restore the youthful, supple appearance of the skin. According to Dr. Kapoor, "the DNA from salmon sperm is thought to enhance collagen production, which can help reduce the signs of ageing such as wrinkles and fine lines."

"It also encourages the growth of new skin cells, achieving that fresh look," she continues. However, the efficacy and advantages of this K-beauty craze are not sufficiently supported by data or studies."

These include lumps, redness, bruising on the face, and mild to severe inflammation in the injected area.
To prevent future issues, get medical assistance right away if these symptoms last longer than a week.
Additionally, it may result in potentially fatal skin conditions such skin infections, lumpy skin, and clogged blood vessels.
Do you think you should receive the treatment?
Dr Yadav believes that practically anybody who is aiming to improve skin quality, laxity.

"It works wonders for dark circles beneath the eyes, and the results show up right after just one session. The doctor continues, "It gives the skin a very subtle natural glow and works wonderfully for dull and dehydrated skin."

According to the expert, results often endure for six to eight months, and three sessions are advised.

Although this treatment can reduce wrinkles and creases and give you naturally radiant skin, it is not a filler and will not make your face appear lifted. Neither will it make up for any volume deficiencies.

"Salmon sperm facial is slowly gaining popularity in India also because of its quick and natural results," says Dr. Yadav.

However, according to Dr. Kapoor, Indian beauty enthusiasts tend to stick to safer and more effective solutions when it comes to skin care and don't explore too much.
