6 people shot dead in a Croatian nursing home; shooter taken into custody

In a tragic incident in northwestern Croatia, a gunman entered a nursing home on Monday, killing six people and injuring six others. Among the deceased were the gunman's mother and a nursing home employee. The incident took place in a facility where the mother had been residing for the past ten years, according to Marin Piletic, the minister for labor, pension, family, and social policy.

Authorities have not yet provided a motive for the attack, though Croatian media reported that the shooter, born in 1973, is a war veteran. The gunman fled the scene following the shooting but was later apprehended by police.

Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic expressed his shock and condemnation of the crime, describing it as a "monstrous act" and extending sympathies to the victims and their families. He emphasized the gravity of the crime, highlighting the senseless murder of the gunman's own mother and other elderly individuals who were present at the nursing home.
