A post from a parody account puts YouTuber Dhruv Rathee in legal hot water with the authorities

Maharashtra's cyber police have filed a case against YouTuber Dhruv Rathee after a parody account posted a fake message on X (formerly Twitter) about Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla's daughter. The parody account, @dhruvrahtee, claimed that Birla's daughter had cleared the Union Public Service Commission exam without appearing for it. The account's bio clearly states it is a fan and parody account not affiliated with Rathee.

Dhruv Rathee expressed his frustration, criticizing a media house for falsely implicating him without verifying the facts. He clarified that he had no connection to the parody account's post.

The complaint was brought to the police by a relative of Om Birla. The police charged Rathee under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for defamation, intentional insult, and provoking a breach of peace, along with sections of the IT Act.

Upon realizing that the post came from a parody account, not Rathee's official account, the police stated that the matter is under investigation. The parody account later issued an apology, claiming ignorance of the facts and confirming the deletion of all posts and comments related to Anjali Birla.
