Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh criticized the Tihar prison authorities' statements regarding Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's health on Monday. The prison authorities claimed that Kejriwal was in good health and his vitals were normal. However, Singh alleged that Kejriwal had lost 8.5 kg and experienced hypoglycemia, with his blood sugar level dropping below 50 mg/dL five times since his arrest.Â
Singh accused the prison authorities of wrongdoing by releasing Kejriwal's medical report and contested their claims. He stated that a team of AIIMS doctors monitoring Kejriwal had noted his rapid weight loss and dangerously low blood sugar levels, which could lead to coma or death. Singh also urged Prime Minister Modi not to jeopardize Kejriwal's health, warning that any adverse incident would be challenging for the Centre to justify.
Earlier, Tihar Jail authorities dismissed AAP's allegations, asserting that Kejriwal's health was continuously monitored and regularly assessed by medical professionals. They confirmed that Kejriwal followed a medically prescribed diet, including home-cooked food as per court orders, and despite slight weight loss, his vitals were normal, and he received appropriate medical care.
The prison officials claimed that health status reports contradicted the AAP ministers' and legislators' statements, labeling the allegations as "misleading and driven by ulterior motives" to discredit the prison administration. They also provided a documented weight chart showing Kejriwal's weight decrease from 63.5 kg to 61.5 kg from June 2 to July 14.
Kejriwal had surrendered at Tihar Jail on June 2 after his interim bail, which was granted by the Supreme Court to allow him to campaign for his party during the recent Lok Sabha elections, expired.
