An old video features JD Vance endorsing less voting rights for individuals without children

Republican Vice Presidential candidate JD Vance has sparked a new controversy following the resurfacing of a 2021 video in which he suggested that people with children should have more voting rights than those without. In the clip, Vance, speaking to the Intercollegiate Studies Institute, proposed that non-parents have less "investment" in the future of America and should thus have a smaller voice in the democratic process. He suggested that voting power should be proportional to one's parental status, with parents having greater influence.

Vance, who is running alongside Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, acknowledged that his proposal might attract criticism but defended it by asserting that parents should have a bigger say in democratic affairs due to their investment in the future. His comments were met with cheers from the audience.

This controversy follows an earlier remark by Vance in which he disparaged Democratic leaders by referring to them as "childless cat ladies," a comment he made in a July 2021 interview with Fox News host Tucker Carlson. The remark, which targeted Vice President Kamala Harris, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, and US Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, has also drawn significant criticism.
