The Indian Army has initiated a large-scale cordon and search operation in the hilly regions of Jammu to track down and capture Pakistani terrorists who have reportedly infiltrated the area. Security sources indicate that approximately 40 to 50 terrorists are believed to be hiding in the upper reaches of Jammu's hilly districts.
These terrorists are described as highly trained and armed with advanced weaponry, including American-made M4 Carbine rifles equipped with night vision devices and Chinese steel-coated bullets designed to penetrate bulletproof vehicles. Additionally, they are skilled in mountain and jungle warfare, operating in small, dispersed groups.
In response, the Army has launched a comprehensive operation involving both tracking and hunting the terrorists. A tunnel detection exercise is also underway along the India-Pakistan international border in Samba, and there is an ongoing crackdown on Over-Ground Workers (OGWs) who support the terrorists.
Earlier in the day, security forces successfully thwarted a terrorist attack on a security post and the house of a village defense guard (VDG) in Jammu's Rajouri district. The attack resulted in the death of one terrorist and injuries to a jawan and a civilian. The terrorists targeted the house of VDC member Parshottam Kumar, a Shourya Chakra awardee, in the Gundha area of Khawas tehsil. The attack began with a grenade assault and was followed by a firefight with security personnel.
Since the beginning of the year, Jammu has experienced 14 terror attacks across six districts, resulting in the deaths of 27 individuals, including 11 security personnel, a village defense guard, and five terrorists.
