A fake letter claiming that former US President Jimmy Carter passed away on July 23, 2024, began circulating online, causing confusion and concern. The letter, which falsely claimed Carter's death, was quickly debunked by the Carter Center, confirming that the 99-year-old President is still alive.Â
Jimmy Carter, who served from 1977 to 1981, is the longest-living US President and will celebrate his 100th birthday on October 1. Despite being in hospice care since February 2023 and facing medical issues, including cancer, the Carter Center has reassured the public that the letter is a fabrication.
The letter included satirical and incorrect details about Carter's presidency, which further indicated its inauthentic nature. Carter's last public appearance was in November 2023 at a memorial service for his late wife, Rosalynn Carter.
