Congress fires back at PM Modi's claim that Manipur is becoming less violent

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed concerns about the situation in Manipur during a session in the Rajya Sabha, stating that the government's efforts have led to a decline in violence in the state. He emphasized that more than 11,000 First Information Reports (FIRs) had been registered and over 500 individuals arrested in connection with the incidents. PM Modi also highlighted the reopening of schools, colleges, and offices in most parts of Manipur as a sign of normalcy returning.

In response, the Congress party criticized PM Modi's assessment, calling it "astounding." They pointed out that Modi has not personally visited Manipur since the outbreak of violence between the Meitei and Kuki communities in May 2023. Congress leaders, including Jairam Ramesh and MP A Bimol Akoijam, have raised concerns that the situation on the ground remains tense, contrary to the Prime Minister's claims of improvement.

MP A Bimol Akoijam, speaking in the Lok Sabha, accused the government of being passive observers to the ongoing tragedy in Manipur for over a year. He criticized PM Modi's silence on the matter and noted that even the President's address did not mention the situation in Manipur. The Congress party has urged for more proactive measures and direct engagement from the Prime Minister to address the unrest in Manipur effectively.
