In response to the Worli hit-and-run incident in Mumbai, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has termed the incident as unfortunate and has assured that strict action will be taken against those responsible, emphasizing that everyone is equal before the law.
The incident occurred early on Sunday when a BMW car reportedly driven by Mihir Shah, son of a Shiv Sena leader, collided with a scooter, resulting in the death of a woman and injury to her husband. Mihir Shah has been absconding since the incident.
Rajesh Shah, Mihir Shah's father and a senior Shiv Sena leader, has been detained by the police as the BMW involved in the incident was registered under his name. Additionally, the driver of the vehicle, Rajrishi Bidawat, has also been detained.
The police are investigating whether the driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. They have filed a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Motor Vehicles Act. The car involved was found abandoned in the Kala Nagar area.
The Chief Minister's statement underscores the government's commitment to ensuring justice in the case and holding accountable those found guilty, regardless of their background or affiliations.
