'Faking' a disability: IAS officer-turned-actor faces backlash for supporting reservation

Abhishek Singh, a former bureaucrat who transitioned into acting, responded to allegations surrounding his use of a disability certificate during his selection into the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). Singh, a 2011-batch IAS officer who resigned last year to pursue acting, faced criticism after videos on social media showed him dancing and exercising, seemingly contradicting his claim of having a locomotor disability to avail concessions in the UPSC selection process.

In a detailed social media post, Singh attributed the allegations against him to opposition against reservation policies. He emphasized his reservation support and criticized those who opposed it, urging them to pursue careers outside of government jobs where reservation policies do not apply.

Singh also addressed claims that his selection was influenced by his father, who is an IPS officer, clarifying that his family background is not affluent and that he is the only one in his family who has been selected for the IAS. He mentioned that his siblings and cousins have attempted UPSC exams without success.

Recently, Singh was suspended by the Uttar Pradesh government for taking unauthorized leave and was also relieved from his post as General Observer during the Gujarat Assembly elections due to objections raised by the Election Commission regarding his social media posts with official vehicles.

Despite these controversies, Abhishek Singh is preparing for his debut in the film 'Maa Kaali' and has appeared in music videos alongside celebrities like Sunny Leone and Adah Sharma.
