Five soldiers were murdered in Kathua, J&K, when militants threw grenades at an Army truck

On Monday, an army convoy in Billawar, located in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua district, was attacked by terrorists, resulting in the death of five army personnel. In addition, five other soldiers sustained injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment.

The attack took place in the Machedi area of Billawar, where terrorists positioned on a hilltop targeted the army vehicle and also threw grenades at it.

In response to the attack, the army initiated a counter-operation against the terrorists, leading to an encounter between the security forces and the assailants. Sources have indicated that the terrorists may have fled the area.

According to the news agency PTI, three terrorists were involved in the attack and are believed to have recently infiltrated from across the border.

There has been a notable increase in terrorist attacks in Jammu and Kashmir in recent weeks.

For instance, Jammu and Kashmir's Doda district experienced two consecutive terror attacks on June 11 and 12.

On June 11, six security personnel were injured during an attack on a joint check post at Chattargalla by terrorists. The following day, June 12, a police officer was injured in a gunfight with terrorists at Kota Top in the Gandoh area.

In the aftermath of these attacks, security forces heightened their anti-terrorist operations and announced a cash reward of Rs 5 lakh each for four Pakistani terrorists suspected of infiltrating and operating within the district.

Subsequently, on June 26, three terrorists were killed during an encounter with security forces in a forested area of Doda district. This encounter occurred amid an intensified search and cordon operation conducted by the police, army, and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), which followed the twin terrorist attacks in the hilly district on June 11 and 12.
