Following a stir, Delta Air Lines prohibits non-US pins on flight attendant uniforms

Delta Air Lines has decided to change its uniform policy after controversy erupted over flight attendants wearing Palestinian flag pins. The issue arose from a social media post describing the pins as "Hamas badges," which sparked significant backlash.

In response, Delta has banned its employees from wearing any pins representing countries or nationalities other than the United States. This new policy is set to take effect soon.

Delta stated that the change aims to maintain a safe, comfortable, and inclusive environment for all passengers and employees. Previously, Delta had allowed more flexibility in uniform accessories, but this incident prompted a stricter approach.

The incident underscored the ongoing tensions related to the Israel-Hamas conflict, which have triggered protests and debates, particularly on college campuses.

After the initial controversy, Delta apologized for a social media response that exacerbated the situation, noting that the employee responsible had been removed from handling such communications. The airline acknowledged the importance of diversity among its employees and customers.

Edward Ahmed Mitchell from the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) commented that Delta's response reflects broader issues of discrimination and welcomed Delta's apology as a step toward addressing concerns of anti-Palestinian sentiment.

Overall, Delta's policy adjustment aims to navigate sensitivities around international conflicts while maintaining a professional and welcoming atmosphere onboard its flights.
