For the third time, KP Oli was named as Nepal's new prime minister

President Ram Chandra Paudel appointed K P Sharma Oli as Nepal's Prime Minister for the third time on Sunday, following the collapse of the previous government led by Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda. Oli, 72 years old, will lead a new coalition government formed under the Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML) and the Nepali Congress (NC) alliance.

The appointment comes after Prachanda lost a vote of confidence in the House of Representatives on Friday, triggering the constitutional process for forming a new government under Article 76 (2).

Oli's claim to premiership was supported by NC president Sher Bahadur Deuba, and he secured endorsements from 165 members of the House of Representatives, comprising 77 from his own party and 88 from the NC.

Oli previously served as Nepal's prime minister from October 11, 2015, to August 3, 2016, and again from February 5, 2018, to July 13, 2021. He and his new Cabinet are scheduled to be sworn in on Monday.
