As July draws to a close, excitement is mounting for the highly anticipated launch of the Google Pixel 9 series. This series, set to be unveiled at the Made By Google Event on August 13 at 10:30 PM IST, will introduce four new models featuring advanced AI capabilities and enhanced camera specifications.
The Pixel 9 series will include the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. The standard Pixel 9 is expected to have a 6.3-inch display and will come in four color options: black, light grey, porcelain, and pink. It will feature a design with sharp rounded corners, a matte back finish, and polished metal edges. The higher-end Pixel 9 Pro is also anticipated to have a 6.3-inch display, while the Pixel 9 Pro XL will boast a larger 6.8-inch screen. Both Pro models are likely to share the same color options as the base model but will have a more prominent camera bump.
The Pixel 9 Pro Fold is expected to have a 6.3-inch outer display and a large 8-inch main screen when unfolded. This model is part of Google's effort to compete with Apple's iPhone lineup by introducing a more affordable Pixel model and succeeding the previous Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro.
Regarding camera specifications, the Pixel 9 will feature a 10.5MP front camera and a dual rear camera setup with a 50MP wide lens and a 48MP ultrawide lens. The Pixel 9 Pro will include a 42MP selfie camera and a triple rear camera array with a 50MP main sensor, a 48MP ultrawide lens, and a 48MP telephoto lens. The Pixel 9 Pro Fold is expected to have a 10MP front camera and a triple rear setup consisting of a 48MP main sensor, a 10.5MP ultrawide lens, and a 10.8MP telephoto lens.
All models in the Pixel 9 series will be powered by Google's new Tensor G4 chip, designed to deliver consistent performance and advanced AI features. The base Pixel 9 will come with 12GB of RAM, while the Pro models, including the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, will have 16GB of RAM. This increase in memory is expected to enhance multitasking and overall performance.
The Pixel 9 series will be packed with AI features, including Gemini AI and Circle to Search. The Magic Editor will allow for intuitive image editing with text prompts, while the "Add Me" feature can insert users into group photos even if they weren’t originally present. The Circle to Search feature will improve search capabilities, and Pixel Screenshots will make it easier to save and find information from screenshots.
Google is promising seven years of security updates for the Pixel 9 series, offering long-term protection against malware and phishing attacks. The Emergency SOS feature will provide real-time alerts for nearby fires and floods. Additionally, Pixel 9 users will have access to Pixel Drops, which offer exclusive features and enhancements.
In terms of pricing, the Pixel 9 is expected to be the most affordable model, with European pricing around €899 and a probable US price range of $599 to $799, with $699 being a likely estimate. The Pixel 9 Pro is anticipated to be priced around $999, while the Pixel 9 Pro XL may cost approximately $1,099. The Pixel 9 Pro Fold's pricing is expected to align with the original Pixel Fold, though specific details have yet to be confirmed.
In addition to the Pixel 9 series, Google is also expected to unveil the Pixel Watch 3 and Pixel Buds Pro 2, further expanding its ecosystem of devices.
