In the largest call ever, 1.64 lakh women contribute $2 million, breaking Zoom

The Zoom fundraising event titled "White Women: Answer the Call" shattered records with over 164,000 participants, raising more than $2 million in less than 90 minutes for US Vice President Kamala Harris, the presumptive Democratic presidential candidate. This event, held on Thursday night, marks the largest Zoom meeting ever, despite experiencing technical glitches due to the overwhelming turnout, which prompted some participants to switch to a YouTube livestream.

Popular American celebrities, including singer Pink and actress Connie Britton, joined the call to show their support. The event encouraged women nationwide to participate in the livestream chat and rally their contacts to back Harris, following her endorsement by President Joe Biden, who recently withdrew from the presidential race against Republican Donald Trump.

Erin Gallagher, one of the attendees, remarked on the record-breaking nature of the event, while another user on X (formerly Twitter) highlighted the rapid fundraising pace, noting, "They are literally raising $20,000 per minute. Pop star 'Pink' just spoke from her plane! It's incredible! No wonder Trump is freaking out!"

Connie Britton expressed her excitement about the overwhelming endorsement for Harris, describing the moment when Joe Biden stepped down and endorsed Harris as "seismic" and "cosmic." The fundraiser began with comedian Carol Leif pledging $500,000, and Pink emphasized the critical role of women's voices in the political landscape.

This event was the third large-scale Zoom call organized to support Harris. Previous calls included one with 44,000 Black women and another with 50,000 Black men, raising $1.5 million and $1.3 million, respectively. These efforts aim to consolidate support for Harris as she solidifies her position as the Democratic nominee.
