On Thursday, a tugboat belonging to JSW Steel, carrying 14 crew members, drifted in the Arabian Sea off the Alibag coast in Maharashtra’s Raigad district after its engine failed. The tugboat was en route from JSW’s Dolvi plant near Wadkhal to its Salav unit near Revdanda when the engine malfunction occurred. The vessel became stranded near Kolaba Fort.
Currently, the tugboat is anchored behind the historic Kolaba Fort, and all crew members are reported to be safe. The failure of the engine led to the vessel losing its course.
Authorities, including the Raigad police, coastal police, Coast Guard, and the revenue department, are working together to ensure the crew’s safety and prevent any potential issues. A low tide near Kolaba Fort expected around 11 pm will aid in the rescue operations.
In addition to this incident, Maharashtra has been hit by severe rains causing significant disruptions, especially in Raigad. The Army and other rescue teams are actively involved in helping those affected by flooding. The weather department has issued alerts across the state, urging people to exercise caution.
