Karan Johar's 'Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani' marks its first anniversary on July 28, celebrating a year since its release. The film, starring Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh, was a massive hit, contributing significantly to Bollywood's resurgence last year. The movie opened to great reviews and addressed multiple stereotypes, resonating with a wide audience.
Director and producer Karan Johar commemorated the occasion with a heartfelt note. Sharing a recap of the film's prime moments, he wrote, "Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani turns 1 today - and I am so happy! I am so humbled and grateful for the huge amount of love that has come my way this past year. The film was a celebration of Hindi cinema and I’m so honoured to have had such a celebrated cast and crew on the film!!!! @ranveersingh and @aliaabhatt have my heart forever! Best Rocky and Rani ever!!! Both of them made my life and job so easy! They came I saw and they conquered love you both from last life (sic)."
Johar extended his gratitude to the cast, particularly Jaya Bachchan, who played the matriarch in the film. "Honoured to have directed Jaya Aunty again, she was the most loved actor on our set! Love you so much Aunty J! (sic)," he wrote. He also thanked Shabana Azmi and Dharmendra, adding, "Privileged to have directed legends @azmishabana18 ji and @aapkadharam ji. When we finished working with them I felt like singing 'Abhi na jao chodke dil abhi bhara nahi' to them! (sic)."
KJo praised the ensemble cast, including Tota Roy Choudhury, Churni Ganguly, Kshitee Jog, and others, for their contributions. He credited his writing team for the film's success, mentioning Shashank Khaitan, Ishita Moitra, Sumit Roy, and Somen Mishra for their creativity and support. "To my writing team who are the heart and soul of the film and we would never have been where we are without them. @shashankkhaitan (such a supreme filmmaker and writer, I’m grateful he gave me so much of his time and amazing energy), @_ishita_moitra_, you wordsmith and with a sense of humor par excellence, @gogoroy (so so solid and sorted), and @somenmishra who orchestrated the entire creative process with such ease and brilliance! Johar also acknowledged the production and assistant director teams for their hard work and dedication. "You all are the wind beneath my wings... love you all!!! Bengali actor Tota Roy Choudhury, who played Alia Bhatt's father in the film, expressed his gratitude to Johar, saying, "Thank you very much Karan Sir, for allowing me to be a part of your vision (sic)." Fashion designer Manish Malhotra reacted with red heart emojis, while Shabana Azmi praised the film's impact, commenting, "I continue to get 100s of compliments for Jamini. I truly believe with this film you have found your meter and it’s the kind of cinema you should make - with full nachna gaana and entertainment but with a social message (sic)."
Alia Bhatt shared behind-the-scenes photos from the film's set, celebrating the milestone. Tota Roy Choudhury also posted a photo from the last day of the film's shoot, reflecting on the journey and the creative collaborations that made the film special. "It was our last day of shoot, together. For the past year and a half, we had braved lockdowns, social distancing, and regular RTPCR tests to arrive at this point. And, oh what a journey it had been! The invigorating conversations, the fun banters, the creative collaborations were all coming to an end (sic)," he wrote.
Further adding, "Shabana'ji suggested that the senior Randhawas & Chatterjee needed to have a keepsake photo for reminiscence so we broke the 'no photo' rule just this once. Sorry Karan Sir and thank you very much for Rocky aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. It will, forever, remain my most special (sic)."
'Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani' earned a total tally of Rs 153.60 crore in India and is currently streaming on Prime Video, continuing to reach and entertain audiences a year after its initial release.
