Karnataka police dog chases murderer 8 kilometers and saves woman's life

In a dramatic turn of events in Karnataka's Davanagere district, a police dog named Tunga 2 played a heroic role in apprehending a suspected murderer and saving a woman's life. The incident unfolded when a patrol team discovered the body of Santosh, aged 33, near a petrol pump in Santhebennur, Channagiri taluk. SP Uma Prashant quickly mobilized Tunga 2 and her handler, constable Shafi, to the scene.

Tunga 2, a Doberman, swiftly picked up the scent from the victim's jacket and embarked on an intensive eight-kilometer chase in heavy rain. The determined dog led the police team to a house in Channapura where they heard disturbing noises. Without hesitation, the police stormed into the house and discovered a man, identified as Rangaswamy, brutally assaulting a woman named Roopa.

Roopa, who was on the brink of losing consciousness due to the severe beating, was rescued in the nick of time thanks to Tunga 2's timely intervention. The police promptly arrested Rangaswamy, realizing he was not only the assailant responsible for Santosh's murder but also the target of their search.

It was revealed during the investigation that Rangaswamy had allegedly murdered Santosh with a machete near the petrol pump, suspecting him of having an affair with his wife. After committing the crime, Rangaswamy had fled to Channapura with the intention to harm Roopa, his wife, but was intercepted by the police just in time.

Roopa, having sustained injuries from the assault, was promptly admitted to Santhebennur Community Hospital for medical treatment. The swift action and remarkable instincts displayed by Tunga 2 were hailed by authorities and the community alike, underscoring the invaluable role of police dogs in law enforcement operations.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of vigilante justice and the critical importance of effective policing in preventing and responding to acts of violence within communities. Authorities continue to investigate the case to ensure justice is served for the victims and their families.
