Mahua Moitra's case about her social media post on the head of the women's panel

An FIR has been lodged against Trinamool Congress (TMC) Member of Parliament Mahua Moitra for allegedly making derogatory comments concerning Rekha Sharma, the chief of the National Commission for Women (NCW). This complaint was formally filed by the NCW with the Delhi Police on Friday. The allegations pertain to a reposted tweet on a social media platform, where Moitra purportedly made remarks that are deemed offensive under Section 79 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) - 2023.

In response to a video showing Rekha Sharma being accompanied by an individual holding an umbrella, a social media user questioned why Sharma couldn't carry her own umbrella. Moitra's reported response to this tweet was, "She (Rekha Sharma) is too busy holding up her boss's pajamas." This comment has sparked controversy and led to the filing of an FIR against Moitra.

Following the NCW's complaint, the Delhi Police's Special Cell has taken up the case and launched an investigation. The first step involves obtaining detailed information from the social media platform where Moitra's remarks were posted. The investigation aims to ascertain the facts surrounding the alleged derogatory remarks and determine the appropriate legal actions to be taken.
