Mallikarjun Kharge attributes the opposition walkout to the PM's lie on the Constitution

Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of lying about the Congress party’s stance on the Constitution, prompting the opposition to walk out of the House. Kharge contended that it was actually the BJP-RSS and their predecessors who opposed the Constitution, rather than the Congress.

Kharge explained to reporters inside the Parliament complex that the Indian parties walked out because of Modi's false claims, asserting that the BJP-RSS, Jan Sangh, and their political ancestors had a history of opposing the Constitution. He accused the Prime Minister of habitual lying and distorting the truth.

Kharge also referenced past incidents where effigies of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar and Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru were burned, labeling these actions as shameful.

During Modi's reply to the Motion of Thanks on the President's address, Kharge attempted to intervene but was ignored by Rajya Sabha chairperson Jagdeep Dhankhar, leading to the opposition's walkout. Kharge insisted that he merely wanted to clarify the historical opposition to the Constitution by the RSS.

In support of his claims, Kharge cited an article from the RSS mouthpiece 'Organiser' dated November 30, 1949, which criticized the new Constitution for lacking Indian elements and ignoring ancient constitutional developments.

NCP leader Sharad Pawar condemned the disrespect shown to Kharge, emphasizing that the constitutional role of the Leader of the Opposition was disregarded. He asserted that both the Prime Minister and the House chairperson failed in their responsibility to respect Kharge, which united the opposition in their decision to walk out.

In the Rajya Sabha, PM Modi launched a strong critique of the Congress, accusing them of making arbitrary constitutional amendments during the Emergency and prioritizing one family over the nation. Modi referenced the slogan "India is Indira, Indira is India" to illustrate his point that the Congress disrespected the Constitution.
