Man attacks BMW hit-and-run suspect, saying, "I'll drag him like he dragged my wife"

The husband of a 45-year-old woman, who was tragically killed in a BMW hit-and-run incident in Mumbai's Worli on Monday, has called for severe punishment for the 24-year-old driver, Mihir Shah. He expressed his anguish, stating that he would "drag the driver" in the same manner that his wife was "dragged."

He emphasized that his wife could have been saved if the car driver had applied the brakes in time.

While Mihir Shah remains on the run, his father, Rajesh Shah, has been granted bail. @DipeshTripathi0 provides more details. #7At7 with @PreetiChoudhry: https://t.co/Uvc990V2Bz#BMW #BMWHitandRun #RoadAccident #MihirShah pic.twitter.com/puuA9WJZqk — IndiaToday (@IndiaToday) July 8, 2024

Speaking to the media at the Worli police station, Pradeep Liladhar Nakhva, the husband of victim Kaveri Nakhva, recounted the incident. The couple was returning from Crawford Market on Sunday morning after buying fish when their scooter was struck from behind by a speeding BMW at around 5:30 a.m.

"We were riding at a speed of 30 to 35 kilometres per hour when a speeding car hit us from behind. Due to the impact, we landed on the bonnet of the car," Pradeep told news agency PTI.

Describing the harrowing experience, he said, "The driver pressed the brake, causing me to fall off, but my wife was trapped under the front wheel. I tried to stop the car by banging on the bonnet, but the driver did not stop and dragged my wife towards the west end of the sea link."

The car was allegedly driven by 24-year-old Mihir Shah, the son of Rajesh Shah, a leader of the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena. Since the accident, Mihir has been absconding.

Meanwhile, the police arrested Mihir's father, Rajesh Shah. However, the Mumbai court granted bail to the Shinde Sena leader the following day on a bond worth Rs 15,000.

In a voice filled with grief and anger, Pradeep Nakhwa, tearfully said, "I have two children. We lost everything. My wife is gone, but the accused should receive stringent punishment for the accident."

The Mumbai police reported that the car dragged the woman for more than 2 kilometers. She was immediately taken to the hospital after the accident, but the doctors pronounced her dead upon arrival.

It is suspected that Mihir was intoxicated at the time of the accident, as he was seen at a bar in Juhu a few hours prior. However, the bar owner claimed that Mihir only drank Red Bull while he was there.
