Man from UP discovered dead on rails after escaping police station; four officers suspended

On Sunday evening, Anshu, aged 27, was brought to the Manikpur police station after a complaint was lodged against him for allegedly causing a disturbance during a Muharram procession. Reports indicated that he was in an inebriated state at the time. However, shortly after he arrived at the station, Anshu managed to escape. By Monday night, his lifeless body was discovered on the railway tracks. Initially, the police labeled the body as unclaimed and circulated photos and videos on social media to facilitate identification.

Anshu's family recognized the body and demanded that a case be filed against all the police personnel present at the Manikpur station. They organized a protest, blocking the town’s roads in their demand for justice. Succumbing to the mounting pressure, the police registered a case based on the family's complaint.

CCTV footage from the police station revealed that Anshu was brought in on an e-rickshaw at 7 pm on Sunday. Within nine minutes, he was seen fleeing the station. Superintendent of Police Arun Kumar Singh disclosed that the police personnel did not make any immediate efforts to locate Anshu after his escape. Consequently, four officers, including SHO Vinod Shukla, head constable Veer Singh, and constables Pramod Paswan and Ankit Rajput, were suspended. An FIR was also filed against them.

SP Arun Kumar Singh further noted that Anshu’s arrival at the police station was not recorded in the general diary, and assured that further actions would be taken based on the findings of the ongoing investigation.
