Union Minister Nitin Gadkari warned the BJP against making the same errors that led to the Congress's downfall. Gadkari emphasized the BJP's distinct identity, recalling veteran leader LK Advani’s description of the BJP as a "party with a difference."
During a high-level party meeting in Goa, Gadkari remarked, "If we continue doing what the Congress used to do, then there is no use of their exit and our entry.”
His remarks came shortly after the BJP did not secure a majority on its own in the recent Lok Sabha elections. The Goa BJP executive meeting, attended by the party's state unit president Sadanand Tanavade and Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, saw Gadkari reiterate Advani's sentiment about the BJP's distinctiveness.
Gadkari highlighted that the BJP's success was due to the Congress's mistakes, cautioning that repeating those mistakes would nullify the BJP's gains. He stressed the importance of understanding how the BJP differs from other parties, emphasizing that politics should be a tool for social and economic reforms.
He also called for a strategic plan to build a corruption-free nation and advised against engaging in caste-based politics, particularly referencing Maharashtra. Gadkari firmly stated his opposition to caste politics, declaring, “Jo karega jaat ki baat, usko padegi kaske laath (those who will speak about caste will get a strong kick)."
