On Kargil Diwas, the PM warned Pakistan that he would combat terrorism with all of his might

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, speaking at the Kargil War Memorial on the occasion of Vijay Diwas, declared that Pakistan was attempting to maintain its relevance through acts of terrorism and proxy wars. Amidst a recent increase in attacks in Jammu and Kashmir, Modi issued a strong warning to Pakistan, stating that India would overcome every terrorist threat. During his visit, the Prime Minister also initiated the "first blast" for the construction of the Shinkun La tunnel in Ladakh, which will be the highest tunnel in the world upon completion, situated at an altitude of 15,800 feet.

In his address at the Kargil War Memorial, Prime Minister Modi highlighted India's victory in the Kargil War 25 years ago, showcasing the nation's virtues of truth, restraint, and strength. He criticized Pakistan for its repeated failures in malicious endeavors, noting that the country is still trying to stay relevant through terrorism and proxy conflicts.

Modi emphasized that Pakistan had not learned from its historical mistakes. Speaking from a location where he believed the orchestrators of terrorism could hear him directly, he warned them that their malicious goals would never succeed. He asserted that Indian soldiers would crush terrorism with full force and respond appropriately to any threats.

On July 26, 1999, the Indian Army announced the success of "Operation Vijay," reclaiming territories from Pakistani infiltrators on the Indian side of the Line of Control (LoC) in the Kargil sector after nearly three months of intense battle. This day is commemorated as 'Kargil Vijay Diwas' to honor India's victory over Pakistan in the conflict.

Modi expressed that the land of Ladakh was marking the 25th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas, a reminder that the sacrifices made for the nation are eternal. He also criticized the opposition for politicizing the Agnipath recruitment scheme for the Army, accusing them of deliberately misleading the youth. He emphasized that his government prioritized defense reforms, contrary to the opposition's claims.

Modi dispelled the misconception that the Agnipath scheme was designed to save pension funds, arguing that concerns about pensions for current recruits would not arise for another 30 years. He asserted that the government respected decisions made by the armed forces because national security, not politics, was paramount.

He also highlighted the rapid growth in infrastructure development and the tourism sector in Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir. Modi stated that India would overcome any challenges hindering development in these regions. He noted that it would soon be five years since the abolition of Article 370, and Jammu and Kashmir were now envisioning a new future with ambitious dreams.

Earlier in the day, Modi laid a wreath at the Kargil War Memorial in Ladakh, paying tribute to the soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the Kargil War 25 years ago. On this occasion, several leaders across party lines paid homage to the 545 soldiers who perished in the conflict. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, and BJP President JP Nadda were among those who honored the bravery and sacrifice of the Kargil War heroes.

The Shinkun La Tunnel Project involves constructing a 4.1-km-long twin-tube tunnel at an altitude of around 15,800 feet on the Nimu-Padum-Darcha road, ensuring all-weather connectivity to Leh. Upon completion, it will be the highest tunnel in the world, facilitating the swift and efficient movement of armed forces and equipment and promoting economic and social development in Ladakh.

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, in his tribute, emphasized the unwavering commitment, valor, and patriotism of the soldiers who kept the country safe and secure. Union Home Minister Amit Shah highlighted the bravery displayed by soldiers in the Kargil War, which forced the enemy to surrender and brought pride to the nation by hoisting the tricolor flag in Kargil. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and BJP President JP Nadda also expressed their gratitude and respect for the soldiers' indomitable courage and sacrifice, reaffirming their dedication to the nation's sovereignty and pride.
