A 24-year-old man in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, has alleged that his wife left him due to his dark complexion and subsequently filed a harassment complaint against him. The man, residing in the Vicky Factory area, reported that his wife began troubling him and taunting him about his complexion soon after their marriage 14 months ago.
According to the man's statements to reporters, his wife gave birth to a girl about a month ago but left the child at his home and moved to her parents' house ten days later. When he attempted to bring her back, she cited his dark complexion as the reason for not returning and refused to come back with him.
Following this, she filed a harassment complaint against him at the women's police station. The man and his mother have also lodged a complaint regarding the issue during a public hearing with the local police.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Kiran Ahirwar confirmed that the woman had left the child with her in-laws and gone to her parents' house. The police have scheduled a counselling session for both parties on July 13 before deciding on further action.
