President Droupadi Murmu participates in the Puri Rath Yatra, which starts

The annual Lord Jagannath Rath Yatra commenced in Puri, Odisha, with special significance this year as it spans over two days for the first time since 1971, due to celestial alignments. President Droupadi Murmu participated in the festivities, joining the lakhs of devotees on Sunday.

Typically organized in a single day, the Rath Yatra involves the grand procession of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Goddess Subhadra on elaborately decorated chariots from the Jagannath Temple to the Gundicha Temple, covering a distance of about 3 kilometers.

This year, certain rituals like 'Nabajouban Darshan' and 'Netra Utsav', which precede the Rath Yatra, were condensed into a single day due to the altered schedule. 'Nabajouban Darshan' marks the unveiling of the youthful appearance of the deities after a period of quarantine following the 'Snana Purnima' ritual.

Security arrangements for the festival are extensive, with 180 platoons of security personnel deployed to maintain order and manage the large crowds. AI-based CCTV cameras have been installed at key locations, ensuring comprehensive surveillance.

Special provisions have been made for the President's visit, including VIP and buffer zones to ensure security and smooth proceedings. The fire service department has also taken precautions, deploying 46 modern fire tenders across Puri and the sea beach area.

Overall, the Rath Yatra in Puri remains a deeply significant event, drawing devotees from far and wide to celebrate this auspicious occasion dedicated to Lord Jagannath.
