Prior to Muharram, the father of UP MLA "Raja Bhaiya" was placed under house arrest

Uday Pratap Singh, the father of Jansatta Dal (Loktantrik) president and Kunda MLA Raghuraj Pratap Singh, has been placed under house arrest along with nearly a dozen of his supporters by the district administration. This measure is aimed at ensuring a peaceful observance of Muharram in the city, according to police reports on Monday.

Uday Pratap Singh, also known as 'Raja Saheb', holds the title associated with the former princely state of Bhadri. His son, Raghuraj Pratap Singh, popularly known as 'Raja Bhaiya', has been elected seven times as MLA from the Kunda assembly seat in Pratapgarh district.

The decision to place them and their supporters under house arrest, lasting for 68 hours until 9 pm on July 17, was taken as a precautionary measure. This action comes amidst concerns that Uday Pratap and his supporters intended to organize a community feast ('bhandara') commemorating the anniversary of a deceased monkey, an event scheduled on the route of the Muharram procession (Tazia) in the Sheikhpur Aashiq area.

Circle Officer (CO) of Kunda, Ajeet Singh, confirmed that notices have been posted at Uday Pratap's residence, 'Bhadri Kothi', on the directives of District Magistrate Sanjeev Ranjan and Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Bharat Ram. Police personnel have been deployed at the residences of all individuals under house arrest to monitor their activities closely during this period.
