Rahul Gandhi to Yogi Adityanath: Increase damages for victims of the Hathras stampede

Congress MP Rahul Gandhi has written a letter to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, urging him to increase the compensation for the families affected by the tragic stampede at a 'Satsang' event in Hathras. The incident, which occurred on July 2, resulted in the deaths of at least 121 people and left several others injured.

In his letter, Rahul Gandhi expressed concern over the adequacy of the current compensation provided by the Uttar Pradesh government, which stands at Rs 2 lakh for the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured. He described the current compensation as "inadequate" and emphasized the need for the state government to raise the amount significantly.

Rahul Gandhi also called for a fair and transparent investigation into the stampede, urging strict action against those responsible to ensure justice for the victims and their families. He mentioned his personal interaction with the families of the victims in Hathras, where he listened to their harrowing stories, underscoring the importance of supporting them during such difficult times.

Meanwhile, a judicial commission has been formed to investigate the tragedy, with the committee members visiting the site in Hathras and preparing to record statements from officials and others involved in the event.

Bhole Baba, the organizer of the 'Satsang', expressed his sorrow over the incident and urged affected families to trust in the judicial process.
