Former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma, who was suspended from the party in July 2022 following controversial remarks about Prophet Muhammad, recently criticized Congress leader Rahul Gandhi indirectly for his comments about 'violent Hindus'. Sharma suggested that there is a concerted effort to marginalize 'Sanatanis' (followers of Hinduism) in India.
Addressing an event in Ghaziabad without mentioning Rahul Gandhi by name, Sharma cautioned against labeling Hindus as violent and emphasized the existence of a conspiracy aimed at the Hindu community's eradication. She referred to the security concerns she faces, implying that such threats wouldn't exist if there weren't a broader conspiracy against Hindus.
Nupur Sharma recalled the nationwide controversy sparked by her remarks on a TV debate two years ago, which prompted her to receive death threats and necessitated security measures from Delhi Police, including an arms license for self-defense.
Asserting her right to free speech and opposing any imposition of Sharia law in India, Sharma reiterated her commitment to upholding the country's Constitution.
Her past remarks about Prophet Muhammad had stirred significant backlash, resulting in multiple FIRs against her for religious insensitivity and protests across India. Even the Supreme Court had criticized her, emphasizing the potential risks her statements posed to national harmony.
