Row sparked by Mahua Moitra's 'pajamas' remark directed at the head of the women's panel

Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra has come under fire for a crude remark she made about National Commission for Women (NCW) chairperson Rekha Sharma. The controversy began when Moitra commented on a video showing Rekha Sharma arriving at the site of the Hathras stampede, with a man holding an umbrella over her. A social media user shared the video on X, questioning why Sharma could not carry her own umbrella. Moitra responded with a tweet saying, "She (Rekha Sharma) is too busy holding up her boss's pyjamas."

The NCW reacted strongly, calling the remark derogatory and a violation of a woman's right to dignity. The commission demanded the registration of an FIR against Moitra and requested a detailed action report within three days.

In response, Mahua Moitra challenged the Delhi Police to act on the NCW's orders, stating that she was in Nadia if they needed to arrest her. Moitra also took a parting shot, asserting, "I can hold my own umbrella."

BJP leader Shazia Ilmi countered Moitra's remark by sharing a photo of someone holding an umbrella over Moitra's head, accompanied by the comment, "And BTW whose pajamas are you holding this time around?" This exchange has further fueled the political row, highlighting the ongoing tensions and personal attacks between political figures.
