Russia targets energy facilities with missiles, killing two people in Kharkiv, Ukraine

Overnight attacks by Russian forces in Ukraine resulted in significant civilian casualties and damage to critical infrastructure. Oleh Syniehubov, the regional governor for Kharkiv, reported that Iskander missiles targeted an infrastructure facility in Barvinkove, northeast Ukraine, resulting in the deaths of two civilians and injuring three others. The attack also caused extensive damage to over 50 residential, administrative, and commercial buildings in the area.

The Ukrainian Air Force confirmed that Russian forces launched four ballistic Iskander missiles during the overnight assault, which were not intercepted by Ukrainian air defenses. Additionally, Ukrainian air defenses successfully shot down 13 out of 17 Russian drones deployed over multiple regions in the eastern, northern, and central parts of Ukraine.

Ukrenergo, Ukraine's national grid operator, reported that drones attacked electricity distribution facilities in the central Poltava region, Sumy region in the northeast, and Chernihiv region in the north. As a result, emergency power cuts were implemented affecting both industrial and residential consumers in Poltava and Chernihiv.

Furthermore, Ukrainian Railways disclosed that the attacks damaged railway infrastructure in parts of the Kharkiv region, briefly disrupting some passenger train services. These incidents mark a continuation of intensified Russian military actions targeting Ukraine's energy and transportation sectors since March, significantly impairing energy generation capabilities and causing prolonged power outages affecting millions of people.
