In response to a series of alleged mob lynching incidents that resulted in the deaths of four individuals within a week, the West Bengal government has directed the police to heighten their vigilance and take strict action against those responsible for such acts. Although the government did not specify any particular incident, the directive aims to curb the rising instances of mob violence in the state.
The Trinamool Congress (TMC) government has also decided to provide financial aid and employment support to the victims' families. Each family will receive Rs 2 lakh in financial assistance, and a job as a home guard will be offered to the next of kin of the deceased.
"We regret that these incidents have occurred in the state. While no amount of compensation can make up for the loss of innocent lives, we are offering Rs 2 lakh as economic support to the families of the victims, along with a home guard position for one family member," stated Alapan Bandyopadhyay, Chief Advisor to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
ADG (Law and Order) Manoj Kumar Verma emphasized that the West Bengal police have been instructed to maintain open communication with the public as part of their vigilance efforts. "All police units have been directed to take strong and lawful action against those attempting to disrupt law and order in West Bengal," Verma told PTI.
