The PM congratulates Manu Bhaker on his historic medal victory at the Olympics in Paris


Manu Bhaker made history by becoming the first Indian woman shooter to win an Olympic medal, securing a bronze in the 10m air pistol event. This remarkable achievement marks a significant milestone for Indian sports and has garnered widespread acclaim and congratulations from across the nation.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to X to congratulate the 22-year-old shooter from Haryana, who opened India's medal account in the 2024 Paris Olympics with her stellar performance. "A historic medal! Well done, @realmanubhaker, for winning India’s FIRST medal at #ParisOlympics2024! Congrats for the Bronze. This success is even more special as she becomes the 1st woman to win a medal in shooting for India. An incredible achievement!" Modi posted.

President Droupadi Murmu also extended her heartfelt congratulations, emphasizing the pride and inspiration Manu Bhaker's achievement brings to the country. "Heartiest congratulations to Manu Bhaker for opening India’s medal tally with her bronze medal in the 10-metre air pistol shooting event at the Paris Olympics. She is the first Indian woman to win an Olympic medal in a shooting competition. India is proud of Manu Bhaker. Her feat is going to inspire many sportspersons, especially women. I wish she scales greater heights of accomplishment in the future," President Murmu said.

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini praised Bhaker for fulfilling the dreams and expectations of the entire country. "The country's proud female shooter Manu Bhaker has shown her strength in Paris. Manu Bhaker won the bronze medal for the country in the 10-meter women's air pistol event at the Paris Olympics," Saini posted on X. "Today, 22-year-old Manu Bhaker has achieved something that the whole country and the state of Haryana are proud of. Every Haryanvi's chest has swelled with pride today. Many congratulations to the strong and courageous daughter of Haryana," he added.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah celebrated Bhaker's spectacular performance, stating, "Kudos to Manu Bhaker on winning the first medal in the #ParisOlympics2024, by bringing home the bronze. You have sent a wave of euphoria across the nation with your stellar performance. The nation swells in pride at your achievement," Shah posted on X.

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju also extended his warm wishes, highlighting the significance of Bhaker's accomplishment in ending a 12-year gap of medals in shooting for India. "She is the first woman shooter from India to win a medal at the Olympics and ends a 12-year gap of medals in shooting! @realmanubhaker will inspire many young athletes with this feat," Rijiju said. "India strikes its first Olympic Medal at the #ParisOlympics2024! Extending Hearty Congratulations to @realmanubhaker on winning India's 1st Olympic Bronze Medal in Shooting. India is proud of you Manu," he wrote in another post.

Former BJP leader and Indian cricket team's head coach Gautam Gambhir also joined in the congratulations, posting, "Congratulations #ManuBhaker on getting India’s first medal! You’ve made India proud!"
