From January to mid-July of this year, Karnataka has faced a significant challenge with over 9,000 reported cases of dengue fever, resulting in seven fatalities across the state. Among the affected regions, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) areas have been particularly hard hit, recording the highest number of cases statewide. Specifically, Bengaluru has reported 2,830 cases of dengue, with 110 individuals requiring hospitalization due to the severity of their symptoms.
The outbreak has prompted extensive testing efforts, with 66,298 individuals tested for dengue by mid-July. Of these tests, 9,082 people tested positive for the fever. The situation remains dynamic, with an additional 424 cases reported in the last 24 hours alone, highlighting the ongoing public health challenge.
Other regions in Karnataka, such as Chikkamagaluru, have also seen a substantial number of cases, reporting 599 infections by mid-July. The impact has been felt across age groups, with 5,725 adults, 3,203 children aged one to eighteen, and 154 infants under one year old testing positive for dengue.
Efforts are underway to manage the outbreak, including hospitalizations and public health measures to control mosquito populations and educate the public about preventive measures against dengue fever.
