West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee announced on Friday her intention to campaign for Shiv Sena leader Uddhav Thackeray and the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance in the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections.
During her visit to Mumbai for Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant's wedding, Banerjee met with Uddhav Thackeray and extended her full support to the MVA, marking their first meeting since the Lok Sabha elections. She also had discussions with NCP leader Sharad Pawar.
At a joint press conference held at Thackeray's residence, Banerjee emphasized their strong personal relationship, likening it to that of siblings, and clarified that their meeting did not involve any political discussions. Thackeray echoed her sentiments, affirming the non-political nature of their interaction.
Banerjee took the opportunity to criticize the central government led by Prime Minister Modi, alleging an 'Emergency' situation under his rule and describing the NDA government as unstable. She expressed confidence that the current government would not complete its full term.
Regarding Thackeray, Banerjee praised his resilience despite setbacks such as losing his party symbol in the past.
The Maharashtra Assembly elections are scheduled to take place in October, setting the stage for Banerjee's active involvement in campaigning for the MVA alliance alongside Uddhav Thackeray.
