The Odisha government is set to unlock the Ratna Bhandar, the revered treasury of the 12th-century Jagannath temple in Puri, on Sunday after 46 years to inventory its ornaments and valuables. The decision was made during a committee meeting chaired by Justice Biswanath Rath.
The treasury, last opened in 1978, will be reopened at 1.28 pm, according to Justice Rath, who heads the state government's committee overseeing the inventory process.
Committee members, including Arabinda Padhee, the chief administrator of the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA), will visit the treasury after it is reopened. A temporary location for storing the valuables has also been identified, said the former Orissa High Court judge.
