The Trinamool Congress (TMC) secured victories in all four Assembly seats up for by-elections in West Bengal on Saturday. These seats include Bagdah, Ranaghat Dakshin, Raiganj, and the retained seat of Maniktala.
Madhuparna Thakur, daughter of TMC Rajya Sabha MP Mamata Bala Thakur, contested and won from Bagdah with a substantial margin of 33,468 votes, becoming the youngest MLA in the West Bengal Assembly. This seat was previously held by BJP's Biswajit Das, who had won in 2021 but later joined TMC, necessitating the bypoll.
In Ranaghat Dakshin and Raiganj, TMC candidates Mukut Mani Adhikari and Krishna Kalyani, respectively, who had crossed over from BJP post-2021 elections, secured victories. Mukut won by 39,048 votes, while Krishna Kalyani's margin of victory was 50,077 votes.
Maniktala, previously held by the late TMC leader Sadhan Pandey, saw his wife Supti Pandey win by a significant margin of 62,312 votes against BJP's Kalyan Chaubey.
With these wins, the TMC's tally in the West Bengal Assembly now stands at 219 seats. The by-elections were part of a broader set of 13 constituencies across India, where various parties secured wins, reflecting political shifts and strategies in state assemblies.
