Trump breaks with 'Project 2025' to restructure the US government

Project 2025 outlines a dramatic expansion of presidential power and plans to replace up to 50,000 government workers with Trump loyalists, a move orchestrated by the Heritage Foundation and other conservative groups. Former President Donald Trump attempted to distance himself from the plan, stating on Truth Social that he had no connection to it and disagreed with some of its aspects.

Heritage Foundation President Kevin Roberts' recent comments on Steve Bannon's "War Room" podcast about a second American Revolution have been criticized as a veiled threat of violence. Roberts clarified that the revolution referred to taking power back from elites and bureaucrats, and accused the political left of having a history of political violence.

Despite Trump's efforts to distance himself from Project 2025, many involved in the project worked in his previous administration and could fill key roles if he wins the 2024 election. The Biden campaign has criticized Project 2025 as an extreme policy agenda that should alarm the American public, emphasizing its plans for significant government reform and expanded presidential power.

Project 2025, a 900-page blueprint, calls for drastic changes, including the gutting of some federal agencies. Key figures like Russ Vought, former director of the Office of Management and Budget under Trump, and Stephen Miller, a former senior adviser to Trump, have been involved in shaping the project. The ultimate decision to implement the recommendations would be up to Trump if he wins the election.
